Kemry got her cast off a week ago! I was so excited to go down to Utah to finally be done with casts and to move on to braces. As we were at the doctors office waiting to get the cast off and in the process of getting the cast off I noticed a lot of people saying good luck to me. After a couple of people saying this I realized the braces were going to be worse than the cast.
Kemry got the cast taken off and the doctor says that her foot looks really good. Of course it was super dry and she had lots of toe gunk from having a cast on for 7 weeks. Her leg just socked up lotion for days. After getting the cast off she had to get fitted for shoes. There were two other babies ahead of us which I didn't mind because that meant more time Kemry got to kick around. As the other two babies were getting shoes on you could hear them crying, screaming actually and I was starting to get nervous.
Her foot that had been in the cast was super sensitive. If you touched it she would pull it away or if it rubbed against your shirt she would cringe or cry. This was not good since we were going to now put a shoe on as tight as possible. Finally it was our turn to get shoes. Kemry got fitted and wears the smallest shoe size they make 0000 N. Her foot is long and skinny. Her foot is actually too long for the shoe, but the shoe is also too wide. The doctor showed us how to put the shoes on that took like ten minutes for each shoe. She promised us that it would get easier but she said her hands were really sore from putting the shoes on 3 babies in one day. Kemry did ok getting the shoes on, good thing we had a bottle or she would have been screaming like the babies before us. Kemry got thick hospital socks to try and keep her from getting blisters. Blisters something that didn't even cross my mind with getting new shoes. Then we were told it will take her a week to get used to the shoes! After 30 minutes of information from the doctor we were on our own.
Lets just say the car ride home was rough. There is a bar that clips onto her shoes and we were told we could take that off since we had a long car ride if we needed to. Well we needed to, Kemry cried the whole drive home, even with the bar taken off she still cried. Kemry didn't fall asleep until 4 in the morning, she had gotten the shoes on at noon. Finally at 4 I gave in and said just take the shoes off, nothing was working and I was so tired after trying to stay up with her and just let her sleep on my chest. It has taken her a week to get used to them. She doesn't cry when we put them on and the red blisters and pressure spots are starting to look a lot better. Also we are excited we don't have to go back to primary childrens until the end of January!
Things they don't tell you when your child has club foot.
*don't put your baby on a sleeping schedule. By this point Kemry was only waking up once a night which was wonderful. Now with these shoes we were supposed to wake her up every 2_3 hours to take the shoes off to check for blisters. So much for her sleeping schedule. We did this for the first few days but now the blisters are going away have decided to try and get her back on the sleeping schedule.
*stock up on thick socks that have grippers on the bottom that are tall enough they won't fall down. Kemry has really small feet but all of the socks that fit her don't have the grippers on the bottom. I wish I would have known this before hand so I could have been prepared.
* always take the shoes off before changing a poopy diaper! It just makes life easier.
Kemry at 2 months old:
Kemry loves bath time. She loves sitting in the water kicking her legs. She cries every time we take her out of the bath.
When she gets breaks from her shoes she just kicks and kicks and kicks.
She holds her head up really well.
She has started sucking on her fist.
She has started cooing.
She smiles a lot.
She has started noticing toys and watching them.
Kemry loves to snuggle.
She loves looking at lights.
Kemry started drooling.
She likes to sit looking forward.
And Tim wants to add she is always gassy!

Congratulations on being done with the casts! I hope that things will keep getting better with the shoes too. Kemry is so lucky to have you as a momma!
